These are drawings and painting studies done by observation from real life.
I was taught by a teacher who was inspired by Betty Edwards' Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, and I have since taught the same approach to my own students. It’s a meditative experience and a lifelong practice.

I also occasionally sketch unsuspecting passengers on the subway.
